Target Audience Research

Juno is a popular movie that had a similar target audience as our film has. Jason Reitman directed this film and it was released in 2007 as PG-13 movie. This film targets a primary demographic of ages 12-18, similar to our film that is targeted at teens. Throughout the title sequence, cartoons and fun graphics are used to target this youthful audience. Not only did this film have a similar target audience, but they also address the same issue: teen pregnancy. Juno is about a young girl that becomes pregnant and decides to carry the baby and then give it up for adoption. The film follows the girl throughout this journey and shows the struggles and joys of teen pregnancy. The girl and her family both face difficult decisions that our characters will also have to face. Juno showed one path a girl may chose if she becomes pregnant, but there are many others. By showing multiple ways individuals may handle this, teens that go through pregnancy will be able to better understand some of the options they have.

Certain aspects of print journalism are appealing to me, such as, the publishing process. In All the President's Men , we saw how the two reporters, Woodward and Bernstein, had to get all their articles approved before they could publish them. They had to have a certain amount of sources for their article to be reliable. Not only did they need a certain amount of sources but their sources had to be credible and unbiased. When they published a story with incorrect information, we saw why it is important to have reliable sources. The story negatively impacted their credibility and made it harder to find sources for their next story. I think the magazine project would be a good fit for me because I like to focus on the facts of a situation and I do not usually jump to conclusions without supporting evidence.
